Does your dog have access to water during the night

My dog sleeps in DC1's room (son is aged 18). He sleeps very well in his crate, which we leave open. Occasionally he will come out for 5mins or so but always return to the crate to sleep. We used to have a water bowl in the room but he VERY rarely drinks from it- even if he is encouraged to do so. Does your dog have access to water at night?

No mine don’t and never have. They tend to swim in it so it’s mainly outside and they sleep on the landing at night.

Yes. Always. They both sleep downstairs.

Yes - but mine is a little terrier and she has the run of the house. She often goes off to find a drink in the night.

Nope, never seen the need for it. We used to when he was a puppy and there was space in the crate with the wee mats and small bed but he's now massive and it wouldn't fit. He's used to it though and will normally have a drink before bed.

Yes downstairs but he can do down if he wants
If my mums dog is staying I’ll bring a bowl upstairs for them cos she won’t come back up

Yes it's always available downstairs in the kitchen and there's never a shut door between her and her water bowl. But she's never gone to it through the night. When she goes out for night wees she always has a good drink from a bowl kept outside her back door (it wasn't there last night due to an oversight and boy was routine disrupted...) and that will be her until her morning walk - a quick drink from her bottle on the way round the park and a big drink once we get home.

Other than when travelling in the car I would never not have water accessible and available to any pet. It doesn't have to be in the same room unless that room normally has the door closed whilst the dog is in there.

Access yes, he usually has a drink before bed though and doesn't get up to drink. He then has fresh water in the morning.

Yes, she always has access to water. She sleeps upstairs and I move her water bowl upstairs before I go to bed. As far as I can tell she doesn't drink from it often.

We save the little jars that Gu desserts come in and have a few of those dotted around the house in addition to her main water bowl. She’s lazy when she gets sleepy and wouldn’t walk to another room to get a drink, but she does take a sip from the Gu pots as she passes them. We also keep one in the car in the glove box.

Yes, we fill his water bowl at night. He never drinks from it, in the morning he always has a long drink.

No mine doesn't, he sleeps in my bedroom. I used to let him have the run of the house at night, but he'd get up to no good because he was essentially unattended (although he's always good if left alone for a bit during the day Hmm), so I started bringing his water bowl into my room at night and I'd just wake to him having tipped it up or used his paw to splash it all out, so now I don't bother, and he's well behaved every night.

no, my dog is happy to sleep for 12 hours without any drink in my room, he often forgets to drink after his walk, pants and is not interesting in his water bowl at all

I know our dog is fine as he has a large drink before going to bed and will often turn his nose up at water until he has a run around in the garden in the morning. We keep ds's bedroom door closed because my dog is a mischief magnet.

Yes, she often as a drink in the middle of the night/early hours. But she's an old dog with health problems so that's not necessarily the norm for most dogs I imagine.

I shut my bedroom door overnight and water is in the kitchen. However, DDog is always fast asleep by then and doesn't move until at least 8am so he wouldn't drink it anyway.

Likewise in the car he only gets water if we stop at a motorway service station.

Yes, always access in the kitchen though she sleeps upstairs. Drinks very little though, but has wet food.

Yes but he rarely drinks from it in the night but it's always there anyway as his food and water are in the kitchen and he sleeps on the bench in the dining room all open plan so he can easily get it it if he wants. I usually fill it up before bed and then replace with fresh in the morning

I would always make sure my dogs have access to water 24/7. Surprised so many don't.

My dogs rarely drink through the night, but there may always be the odd occasion when they feel hot or unwell and in need of water.

Yes, water bowl is always accessible in kitchen and dog has free run of the house all day/night - she sleeps downstairs by choice.

No, dog sleeps in my bedroom with door closed. Water is in kitchen.

He doesn't drink early in the morning so he can't be thirsty.

Yes a big bowl in the back hallway where they sleep and a bowl in the kitchen. They do drink from it occasionally but much prefer the horse trough Hmm
