Does your dog have access to water during the night

My dog sleeps in DC1's room (son is aged 18). He sleeps very well in his crate, which we leave open. Occasionally he will come out for 5mins or so but always return to the crate to sleep. We used to have a water bowl in the room but he VERY rarely drinks from it- even if he is encouraged to do so. Does your dog have access to water at night?

He has a big bowl of water available 24/7. It gets refreshed every morning. Why wouldn’t you?

Yes always

No,both mine are crated and never have access to water until the morning. They don’t drink as soon as they come out so obviously aren’t thirsty

Nope. We always make sure he has a good drink before he goes to bed.

Mine don’t.

They sleep though the night and if there is something they are good at letting me know they want something.

I used to bring a bowl of water upstairs, but they never once had a drink, so it sort of stopped.

I have two large dogs, they have access to the house over night but tend to sleep in my room or the landing. During this heatwave they've been going for walks at 11pm and so they tend to want water during the night, in cooler weather they don't need a drink over night but I wouldn't stop them having access to water ever.

My dog has a water bowl downstairs in the kitchen and one upstairs on the landing. She has free reign of the house. She has a crate on the landing she never bothers to use (no door though, I took that off), and a blanket her part of the sofa to sleep on. Also a vetbed just outside her crate (and a vetbed on the living room floor). So she has a choice of places to sleep as well. She usually sleeps on the sofa, but sometimes comes to sleep with me. If she sleeps in my room the door is shut, which is the only time she doesn't have access to water.

Yes, because we sleep in the basement and living room/kitchen is up two floors with door closed. He often has a drink as he is settling down for the night.

Water bowls upstairs, downstairs and outside for dogs and cats to share. Both dogs drink quite a bit overnight, much more so in this heat.

Battendog is in my room and there is no water except on the hottest nights when I freeze a massive block of ice and place it in front of a fan on the floor for him. Obviously, the ice is gradually replaced with water!

He never drinks it, though and doesn't drink when he goes downstairs. We go out for a walk almost immediately and seems fine - drinks as normal when we get back.

He tends to wake me if he really needs anything so I guess he would do so for water, too.

I am seriously surprised that anyone wouldn’t allow free access to water 24/7. I cannot see any reason not to. Even if it doesn’t get drunk 99% of the time or if it all spills. Why wouldn’t you have it there ‘just in case’?

This is what Ddog has in his crate. So also has access to water when crated when we go out during the day.

No. We do have a tiny water bowl clipped inside her crate but only fill it on the scorching nights because she basically just wedges her bowl full of blanket 😂

All my pets have access to clean water 24/7 because it's a basic requirement for any animal.

No but then nor do I or my children. We all go to bed to sleep and don’t wake in the night for a drink.
The dogs have a big drink before bed. When the bedroom door is open they both lie on the bed avoiding getting up as long as they can. First visit is DD’s room for a cuddle, 2nd is the garden for a wee and I honestly cannot recall a mad dash to their water.

My dog has water available 24/7. She can drink during the night or not as she pleases. We have a Lakeland boot tray which we use for her water bowl and food bowl so any spills are well contained.

No. My dog is created in the night and sleeps right through. We have to wake him up in the morning.

We used to but he never bothered with it. So we stopped. He has free access at other times

No
I have 4 pugs and they all sleep in crates. They have the run of the house and garden all day and until about 11pm when I go to bed. Then they come out at 6 when dh gets up for work

Hmm in light of some of the posts I think we will start taking water into the bedroom at night just in case. He usually doesn't touch a drop but you never know.

Mine doesn’t. She sleeps in a crate. I did have one of those little clip on bowls for inside but it just made more mess. She has a big drink after exercise and meals and then a big drink before bed.
On the odd occasion she feels unwell and needs to come out she lets us know.

Of course. How would you feel if you felt thirsty during the night but weren't allowed to have some water?

Interesting thread , I wonder what the percentage is on dogs who are caged that have access to water and those that roam the house who have access .
