Really smelly dog!

My son has just brought our dog back from what he calls a 'real walk'.

She stinks to high heaven! Would it be better to a) bath her, b) hose her, c) take her to the sea and hope it washes off?

Help! she looks so content but she smells really bad.

Thank you

a) hose her off.
b) cover her in tomato of some form - ketchup works - and shampoo - possibly still in garden. If you can work out the general area of the aroma this is clearly a lot easier. Repeat b) until acceptable to have in the house!

For mud I just hose off with water. For 'smelliness' I use a puppy shampoo. For 'stinking' I have fox poo shampoo.

Do you know what's causing the stink?

No good just hosing her off if it's fox poo?

I don't think it's the tomato that gets rid of fox poo stink mistlethrush. Tomato ketchup works on it because of the vinegar in the ketchup, straight forward vinegar would have the same effect.

If she's rolled in fox poo, or something dead, then you need a really good dog shampoo designed to tackle toxic smelliness. Water alone will not do it!

Thank you for all your replies.

She had a wash and brush today and smells gorgeous! Until tomorrow I guess ........

pigsDO - no, it's definitely the tomato, doesn't have to be tomato ketchup, just that's easier to aim than a tin of chopped tomatoes...

Oh, then I stand corrected mistlethrush I was told it was the vinegar and have met several people who just use vinegar for fox poo removal.

Have to be honest I'm not speaking from personal experience as my dog doesn't tend to roll in fox poo, thank goodness.
