Doggy Play date?!

DD2 (8) is dog mad and will one day make an excellent owner, but right now it wouldn't be right to include a dog in our home. DH and I are 'cat people' and not up to the responsibility that being a dog owner entails.

We don't know anyone with dogs that she could spend time with and I see her staring wistfully at walkers on the way to school.

Can anyone suggest a place where I could take her for a "dog fix" that would be acceptable for dogs/owners but not a regular thing as we have appts and clubs coming out of our ears! Thanks x

My dd (just 6) and I volunteer at the local shelter. They ask for people to go in and fuss the dogs (they have already been assessed, any with aggressive tendencies are worked with by staff), brush the dogs, walk the dogs and play with the dogs, is something like that an option? We go whenever we can, usually a couple of times a week but can be as little or as much as we can. They also have a scheme where kids read stories to the dogs, lovely and calming for both!

That actually sounds perfect. I'll look into it. Thanks so much!

If you don’t mind paying an annual fee there’s also borrowmydoggy.com
