What companion would be best?

We have a miniature schnauzer... and are looking for a companion. But on research can't decide on a breed or find much information on breed compatibility.
Anyone have a miniature schnauzer? My husband (and kids) want a cockerpoo but I worry that breed may be too high energy; our schnauzer is quite chilled. But has the whole small dog syndrome! Blush
He is 2years old, very well trained and well socialised. Doesn't really like big breeds. I guess he finds them threatening (as a great mini guard dog, he is!!) but smaller breeds he is absolutely fine with.
Nothing too furry as I worry about allergies (young kids) and I would hate to have to rehome any pet. Hence the thorough research before any pet purchase. He is not aggressive, but if you know schnauzers he can be a bit bark(ie) at times.
Any suggestions?? (I've rambled on enough!)

My schnauzer would have been okay with any breed but we ended up with a little fluffy friend for him. He does get bossed around by the little one (and the cat) but they’re a pretty good mix. They play, sleep and eat together.

He’s not a breed but a mix of miniature poodle and Chinese crested powderpuff. Pros are: he’s very cuddly and loving, doesn’t moult, doesn’t smell (even when wet), tiny poo to pick up, doesn’t eat loads. Cons are: woolly coat gets matted easily (but it’s easy to trim), takes forever to dry when wet, likes to sleep on my head, is extremely intelligent (evil genius!)

@Fatjilly funnily enough we were looking at the Chinese created powderpuff as an option. Personally I think our schnauzer will be fine with any small breed, as he is so well socialised and generally a happy pup. Plus he is still young enough and playful enough to accept a puppy. Thank you for sharing your cute pooches. It's definitely helped reassure us. Will update if and when we get a new pup!!!
