Puppy pulling on lead - help!

4 month old puppy walks beautifully on slack lead on outward walk; people comment how well behaved she is. As soon as we turn to head back she morphs into a pulling fiend!

Every single time I stop, encourage her back to my side and refuse to move until lead goes slack. But I have blisters on my hands from the pulling and it takes forever. If it’s a battle of wills, there is a real risk she might win.

I’ve tried a training harness but that was worse.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Normal harness? Or is that the same as a training one?

Try a dogmatic. They are like haltis but shaped better so they don't pull into the puppy's eyes. They move the point of contact under the chin so they can't use their shoulders to lean their full weight on your hand. Especially good for sled dogs and bully breeds with powerful shoulders, but we used them for all our labs as well.

Mine is exactly the same he loves getting home. I put a treat in the hand of the opposite side he is at and encourage him to stay close to me and look at the treat and say heel. Doesn’t always work but 90% of the time.

We're working on off the lead heel work in the garden to support loose lead work. The Pippa Mattinson book is really helpful on this.
