Help me stop panicking?

Dog is 8 years old and not acting himself at all today. He was fine last night - walk early morning but he refused his food and he's been just...really off and ill all day. He wants to be outside all the time, he's isolating himself from us and he even went right to the bottom of the garden where he never normally goes. He's got a low temperature (we went to the vets! I insisted) and he was vomiting earlier, but the meds the doctor gave him seem to have stopped now.

I'm scared he's isolating himself because he's ready to die or something. My parents are paying for the vet bills and I feel guilty enough that I can't chip in. He's the best dog in the world to me and I really cannot go on without him right now. He's not old for his breed.

I am not sure what is happening with your dog and it's perfect that he's seen the vet.

What I can say is that Battendog is one for peace and quiet and solitude when e's not well. He's never gone off to die. He just cannot cope with company when he's feeling crook. I am like that myself so understand and give him space.

Also, if he's warm (and you are in the UK) then he may just be going outside to cool down a bit?

How is your dog today? Flowers

Its most likely the heat (if you are in the UK) . My dog does not want company or to be in the house when he is hot.
It could be a simple tummy bug etc

You got him to a vets, that's the main thing, and the meds appear to be working. It doesn't matter who's paying the fees, you can always pay them back when/if you have some spare money. But as your parents I am sure they are more than happy to help you help your best friend!

My dog always takes herself away when she's not feeling well. Try not to panic about that.

It sounds like it could be a bit of a bug or something he's eaten.

Dog's get off colour the same way we do. And like us when they're feeling unwell just want to be left alone.

Stupid fucking dog was (mostly) fine today. I love him, but he scared me half to death last night and i was crying until 5am, terrified that he was going to die.

He was a lot brighter today. Still off it, but it looks like he had some gastritis and he's actually on the same meds that I'm on (ranitidine) for a few more days.

Ah I'm glad he is better today!
Its the worst thing when your dog is ill, really shakes you up.

pigsDOfly · 26/07/2018 11:18

Pleased to hear he's better.

My dog has an ongoing condition that flares up from time to time. Last time was really bad and I thought I was going to lose her, spent a week in a state of blind panic.

Sometimes owning a dog is very hard.
