dog cooling mats

Do you have one? Does your dog use it?

We had another horrible night, with one dog panting and not settling and generally being miserable in the heat.

Am my wit's end.

Yes we have one.

No she won’t use it on the floor by herself.

However during the evening, I put it across my lap and then she will lie on it.

Cool damp flannel under their pits helps.

I give mine a treat of watermelon (seeds removed of course) just to get extra fluids in.

It is miserable for them.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 24/07/2018 07:25

I stayed up because he kept drinking water and then going out. Seriously considered sleeping outside.

No mine doesnt like it either and now my dd has stolen it

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 24/07/2018 07:51

Well, Pets@home are out of them, I ordered from Amazon. And if idiot dogs don't want them it will be mine to keep.

What are the chances it will break the hot spell? Grin

When we went on holiday a few weeks ago I froze plastic containers of water - flattish boxes to go under their beds and 5L water containers to go in the car. It seemed to work really well.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 24/07/2018 08:55

The car was another reason for buying it. It least there it will be under their arses whether they want it or not.

My dogs are not the brightest, even I admit that.

My old man DDog loves his, but only when it's in his bed - won't put a paw on it if it's on the floor, but whines at you incessantly when you take it away to "recool" until it's back in his bed. He was really unsettled at night before we got it & now sleeping peacefully (as peacefully as a 12 year old spaniel can sleep anyway) all night again. I'm amazed how warm it is in the morning but once he's off it, it cools down pretty quickly. Best Buy of the summer - got one of those cooling neckerchief thingies too for walks, which he hates though!

TillyTadpole · 24/07/2018 12:19

My 14 week old loves his cooling mat and lies on it all the time. My 8 month old prefers to curl up on the sofa, even in this heat. She is a bit dim, when it suits her, though 😂

JustBeingJobless · 27/07/2018 00:19

I got one from Aldi a couple of months back and it’s really effective. Ddog hates it however, but will lay on it when I tell her to. I kneeled on it the other day and it’s definitely a lot cooler than her bed is to the touch. Thinking of getting myself one for the bed!

FairfaxAikman · 27/07/2018 00:26

Mine prefer col coats.

FairfaxAikman · 27/07/2018 00:27

*cool

Gibble1 · 27/07/2018 00:30

I bought 2 from a caravan shop on Saturday. Ddogs don’t lie on them. I put them on the sofas as that’s where the dogs sleep at night and came down to find lab asleep on the floor and spaniel had tickled his up to use as a cool pillow 😂

GlitteryPineapples · 27/07/2018 00:33

My dog loves cool mats, we have one for downstairs and one for upstairs. Just replaced the old ones actually, we've found that ours last about a year before needing to be replaced but the dog loves them and they definitely make a difference

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/07/2018 07:53

Hope it works.

Last night was a nightmare. Had to wet some towels and put on the dogs to cool them down a bit. No one slept.

Hoping you get a break from it all if like me you are expecting cooler temperatures over the weekend- you poor thing, and your dogs. Sympathies!
I’m looking at dog breeds for when we get another dog (in about 3 years time!) after ours died in Jan and it must be the heat as I can barely even look at long haired breeds! It seems like summers like this are going to be the new norm, I read in the BBC that summer temps might often see 38.5 by 2030 Shock

CherryPavlova · 27/07/2018 08:51

Our beast just lies on ceramic tiled kitchen floor which is always cold. We don’t take him out during the day at moment but take him swimming as his evening exercise rather than walking.

confusedmomm · 27/07/2018 09:50

My dog doesn't use his. He prefers to lay in front of the fan
