My 2 year old Staffordshire has got really offensive fish breath Envy!!! He has been to the vets to have his anal glands expressed..... they told me that should sort the problem but it hasn't ... previous to that he has pancreatitis... so I put him on a low fat diet.... he fine now but his breath reeks!! I brush his teeth with dog toothpaste nothing seems to work!!!

Bad breathe can come from the gut health rather than the teeth. Try charcoal biscuits for him, no food other than his food (don't be tempted to give him the crusts from your morning toast etc) and make sure he's not over weight.

I think I'd be trying to rule out the smell coming from his lips or mouth.

It's a bit gross but rub your fingers along the lips on one side of his mouth, smell them. Repeat on the other side. Then make your way methodically around his gums doing the same thing.

If it's not the mouth or teeth then it must be coming from inside him. I'd be pushing the vet for more options, in that case.

Does he drink lots? As bad breath can be a sign of kidney problems too.

If he has good oral health and his breath smells really bad something in the digestive system is probably not right - maybe even just a particular food he is having that he's intolerant too.
