Renewing insurance with a potential claim

Ddog is insured with Morethan. She has been to the vet twice in recent weeks with an infected toe which is the result of a recurring self injury when she chases a ball. The vet has said that if she injures herself again, he would recommend amputating the toe. I have not put in a claim for the visits so far ,but the insurance is due for renewal. Does this then become a pre-existing condition? Also there is a clause stating

“If the same medical condition causes your pet to suffer from a number Of injuries...., we will pay it once for all the issues linked to that medical condition”.

Can anyone explain how this clause would affect the insurers paying out if she did have to have her toe amputated?

Do you not have a life policy?

Any visit to the vets even if you didn't claim can be deemed as a preexisting condition. I am with petplan on a life policy and before paying out for my first claim they insisted on a full history from the vets.

You may need to phone about the clause and ask what it really means but I read it as if condition A can cause issues B, C and D they will only pay for one of those conditions so if your dog gets D then C and you claimed for D they won't pay for C. However, I might be wrong but that is how I interpreted it.

Doesn't sound great insurance to be honest and given you are worried about preexisting illnesses I assume you don't have a life policy. If that is the case I would seriously look at whether moving to a better life policy would be more prudent on renewal as you would have a preexisting condition either way. If it is a life policy then wouldn't they cover any future amputation?
