Lepto vaccine - did you have it done?

I went with the breeder to have our new pups first jabs done. She was adamant that the pup mustn't have the lepto vaccine.

I have been reading up on the it this evening and I think I am going to take the pup back tomorrow to have the lepto vaccine.

I'm incredibly nervous - has anyone had a dog die from the vaccine? Or even known anyone that had a dog die? Its too late to phone my vet now so does anyone know if he can have the vaccination a day after his others?

Vaccinating has risks. I believe the evidence shows there is much less risk than leaving an animal unvaccinated.
I'm not going to catch lepto from my vaccinated dog.

My vet does L2 not L4

I'll revisit this vaccine for her in a years time, her breed is susceptible to SRMA so I have to be careful with avoiding over-vaccinating her. I know a vet who owns her breed so I'll ask their opinion if lepto every year is overkill or not!

My neighbours dog just died after contracting lepto. However it was from the vaccine itself as the dog was on autoimmune drugs - think the immune system reacted badly.

I asked our vet this morning how many lepto cases she had seen in the last year and it was none.

I’m leaning towards not vaccinating. I have an older dog who doesn’t receive any vaccinations now (had all the puppy ones done and one booster).

We got the jab but our vet doesn't use L4. He'll get his boosters as and when he needs them.
