DNA testing

We recently got a dog via a Rescue Centre from Romania. From online searching including this forum, Wikipedia and YouTube it apppears he is a kokoni or part kokoni. We had originally decided to have him DNA tested to discover his heritage because the Rescue Centre said they had no idea and described him as a mixed breed terrier, but most people guessed he had corgi and golden retriever in him based on his relatively short legs, coat and head shape.
The main companies offering DNA testing are based in the US and can identify only DNA relating to breeds recognised in North America and North west Europe. The list does not include the Greek Kennel Club recognised Kokoni which is found in Greece and Eastern Europe.
I’m wondering if anyone knows of a company whose data includes dog breeds found in East Europe, including the Kokoni. We expect our dog is of mixed breed and feel knowing his heritage will be useful In anticipating any future health issues.
Her gorgeous wee fellow, quiet and affectionate and eager to please and displaying the endearing behaviour patterns shown in some of the YouTube videos.

Embark is very international, and includes village dog genes and also wolf! I think it's also based in USA......I haven't looked in to it yet, but I will try to order it to my UK address (No experience of using it yet, sorry).
I'm interested to see if my African dog has any breed genetics....Or if she's pure African land race. She has conjoined toes like a basenji!
I should be writing a thesis, but I'm very distracted by my dog's genetic heritage (And everything else) Grin
Here's my lovely mutt in her usual posture

Ok...Embark can be shipped to UK, but you have to pay the return of sample yourself, as the postage paid envelope that comes with it only works within US. Its quite a bit more expensive than the ones available in UK, about 200usd Confused.
Anyone used it in UK? Is it worth it?!

Nice dog, Tropic and sounds really interesting.
Can you post back when you’ve used Embark to report on your experiences? That would be great.
Here’s our sweet boy.

TropicPlunder · 17/07/2018 20:33

How did you find out, Vallahala?

He's lovely, Cindie!

Vallahalagonebutnotforgotten · 17/07/2018 21:01

TropicPlunder · 17/07/2018 21:33

Yeah, was looking at that and it's a sample, not all the breeds are listed. There's a link for contacting them OP, maybe you could check with them

Vallahalagonebutnotforgotten · 17/07/2018 21:53
