Clipper rash - He keeps scratching at it

Dog had a blood test last week on 4th and he appears to have got clipper rash.
It was quite red and sore the day after but although it's not as angry looking now, he keeps scratching at it.
I'm cleaning it twice a day with antiseptic wipes and he's not wearing his collar so there is nothing to irritate it.
I'm debating whether to cover it with a dressing or put the collar of shame on him.
Any advice?

Is it hot? That looks very sore.

No it's not hot.
Blisters on it though. I've taken a better picture.

I wouldn't use antiseptic wipes. Has your vet seen it?

fairgame84 · 09/07/2018 18:49

No not yet. They told me over the phone to use cool boiled water.
I've just managed to get hold of my friend who is a vet nurse and she told me to get the collar of shame on him. I'll see what else she suggests.

Poor dog. Does look sore. She might suggest diluted hibiscrub or saline maybe. Hope it's better soon.

She said Arnicare twice per day. I might do that after a clean with cooled boiled water.

He's sulking upstairs because he's got the collar on.

Aw poor baby! I'd just do the collar of shame unfortunately :(

olivetor7 · 09/07/2018 19:54

I would put sudocrem on it, it will ease it quickly.

I use a comfy cone on Wolfie pup. Would that work?

He's got a comfy collar.
He's also got grump on now.

There is a antibacterial powder for dogs (available via internet). I 'd use that - best thing to keep it dry and helps healing without irritating, so please don't use wet anti bac wipes.

fairgame84 · 09/07/2018 20:36

Would you recommend wiping it with cooled boiled water @Ylvamoon or just leaving it for now?
My vet nurse friend advised me to continue to use arnicare twice per day on it.

I just use the power (but than I have long hair dogs, drying take a lot longer!) and usually things heal up within 2-3 days. Without me having to do anything else...
