Our puppy is 5 months old. Our neighbours opposite have a lovely but older dog that is allowed out in their front garden most of the day. Whenever anyone walks past, the older dog starts to bark and this then makes our puppy bark. Sometimes, our puppy runs to the window to bark as well, but he immediately gets down and stops when told to. We then reward him for getting down and stopping (good boy etc).
Even though this stops him short term, he can sometimes get into a ‘barking mood’ when he wants to keep barking and ruffing to himself for a minute or two. I have tried leaving the room when he barks etc.
So I am looking for tips on how to stop him reacting to the other dog but also on how to get him out of the barking habit as well. When out on the lead, he doesn’t react to other dogs barking,
