How do I keep my silly dog cool?

I love him dearly but he’s not the most intelligent. :) I lay down wet towels and he lies near them and pants. I leave extra water bowls and he eyes them up as if they’re evil. He’ll drink cold water when I offer regularly from a cup though. Hmm I worry because he’s getting on a bit. I’ve tried treats on each corner of the towel but he takes the treats and leaves. I keep the house as cool as possible and he has a short hair cut in the summer. Maybe a fan? I don’t love them on if I’m out of the house though. I’d appreciate any ideas please. He’s not getting dementia, he’s always been like this but we love him anyway!

I was up at 0700 to take dog out this morning, it was lovely and cool. Cleaned and filled the paddling pool. Soaked dog and dog friend who has come to stay for the night while my mate is at a festival and dog friend taught my dog not to be afraid of the hose which is brilliant.

House is in darkness with every window and door open. Cat is flopped on a bed upstairs. Dogs are flopped on the wood floors down here.

I'm waiting for someone to call in, then dogs will be chucked in Landrover and we're off to a reservoir with a shady river nearby for them to have a run about and swim, and that'll be it for them until at least 8pm tonight!

Sounds like lovely! Mine has spent the last half hour sunbathing (she's black Hmm). She's now got up, had a drink from the pond and is lying on the wood floor inside. Funny enough, she's loves swimming but has no interest in going in the pond. Just as well really.
