Antibiotics

Further to my post earlier about a split pad in a greyhound, the pad has healed up beautifully. However, where the vet strapped it, her claw dug into the other toe and the whole foot is now very swollen. It looks like there is pus coming out of the puncture wound made by her other claw.

I took her back to the vet who said it looks absolutely fine. I'm looking at it again and it doesn't look right. I'm fairly sure she needs antibiotics. Can I, should I, buy them anywhere else or do I need to go back to the vets? How long can I leave it before I need to get worried?

It is not causing her any pain, so is it likely it actually is OK?

Thanks all

When did the vet see it and say it was ok? Does it look different to when they saw it last?

Could you phone up and ask to speak to the vet again tomorrow and say there is now pus etc and see if they think it warrants another visit.

Is she licking it? If so do you have a cone or something similar to stop her licking it and making it worse to see if that helps it heal.

Antibiotics are prescription only drugs, with good reason

You can, and perhaps should, get a second opinion from another vet, either at the same practice or elsewhere
