I've got a 10 year old dog, very healthy generally.
Found a very small lump on her rib cage a month ago, Vet wasn't worried said he thought it was definitely a fatty lump, measured it and planned to check it at her booster injection next month.
Just stroking her on her underside and felt a 4 cm diameter approx flattish lump on the same side as her other lump, at the edge of her ribcage.
I'm currently imagining the worst. I'll take her to the vet tomorrow but please reassure me with your benign fatty lump stories.

Our wheaten terrier was covered in them! Started with one, which I panicked about and imagined the worst, then he grew loads of them over time. They only need removing if they burst or if they're in an area which gets irritated.
Started when he was 10 yrs too.
Sure it will be fine!

its probably just another lipoma. We have a very elderly dog that has loads of them.
I get them checked over every now and again. Its very normal for an old dog, but its worth getting her checked over, although in most cases its just part of having an old dog.

Thank you both, I've calmed down this morning and your experiences of non cancerous lumps have definitely helped.
I rang the vet and spoke to the nurse and I'm leaving it till Monday to see my usual vet.

My nearly 10 year old has had 2 or 3 of this appear in the last couple of months. Had one looked at (vet took a sample with needle and looked under a microscope) and it was pure fat cells. He had never had any lumps before but clearly the fatty lumps of old age are starting! Cost about £50 to have it looked at in total, was worth it for my peace for mind as they are unusual for him.

As other posters have said, try not to worry. One of our Working cocker spaniel has them, started with one a few years ago now has four on his chest and tummy about the same size. Vets check twice a year and we monitor any changes, one has grown but after vet checked seems fine. We have option to remove but advised they will grow back so don't want to put him through surgery for what is at present, harmless and not impacting his enjoyment in life, just not visually pleasing to some. His brother has none.

Im trying to be positive but it does feel big.

Quick update, vet is removing the lumps on Thursday.

He thinks they're benign but is removing them as the small lump had grown quickly and they are both small at the moment so an easy operation.

He said aspiration is not a reliable diagnostic tool. He also said if she gets further lumps knowing these first ones are benign will mean that we will leave further lumps if they are the same.

Just wanted to clarify that the second lump is bigger but not large compared to some fatty lumps the vet sees!
