Did my dog have a urinary infection?

Dog had gungy eyes and was put on mild antibiotics by the vet. His eyes cleared up but his general health deteriorated. So temperature, not eating or drinking, very weak and struggling to breathe. I honestly thought I was going to lose him.

He ended up on a drip, anti-inflammatories and two lots of stronger antibiotics. The hospital said they weren’t sure what the problem was - X-ray was clear but thought it may be upper respiratory.

Anyway, he’s doing extremely well now, but I’ve noticed he doesn’t smell. We used to bath him twice a week and within two days he would smell strongly of urine. He would also pee on the floor if he got excited and doesn’t do this anymore.

Are the pills masking his usual whiff or were these all symptoms of a urinary tract infection?

Does sound like a uti. Glad he’s ok now.

Thanks, agedknees. I’m thinking he’s probably had it for ages, but it got much worse recently. Poor dog!
