Hi All,

I just wanted to vent really. We took our doggy a week ago to the vets because of a lump in his mouth and the vet couldnt see the bleeding or much of the lump as she didnt examine him very well, but she referred him to her collegue who previously dont his mouth operation.
We had a call on Friday to tell us the appointment is wednesday., but our poor dggy has just been bleeding everywhere (From his mouth) hes had 2 new beds our carpet is stained. I just cant believe they would leave it this long for a bleeding doggy :-( Just feel frustrated. The vet is a very very good vet i just cant believe they didnt want to see him straight away . We know its his mouth cancer that has return, maybe tomorrow was the only appointment they could get for the xrays and things.

Sorry theres not much point to this post

You can have a rant - you are entitled too. I would be cross and frustrated with this too. Is it worth trying to see if you can get an emergency appointment today? My vets as recently increased their working time to include evenings and Saturday. I think this is in response to a new vet practice but it is all for the good. Hope your dog is okay

I wouldn't be happy with their response tbh. If you feel it's urgent then they should treat it as urgent.

I've never had a vet who wouldn't have treated something like that as an emergency. In your shoes I think I'd be looking for a different vet.

BiteyShark · 15/05/2018 15:15

How awful for you to wait that long. At ours they always ask if we need seeing that day and will squeeze us in if urgent.

Just to add. I've been to my current vet a couple of times in an emergency situation with my dog's ongoing condition.

The first time they fitted me in on a Saturday morning, they work until 12.30 on a Saturday. I was there for over 2 hours while they did blood tests and I waited for the results. They sorted out all her medication on that day and did everything necessary to get her treatment started.

The same thing a couple of weeks ago when her condition flared up. I got an appointment straight away and they admitted her.

I'm shocked at your vet tbh. I would expect more from them if I were you. It's not good enough.

I'm. Not sure if it's because he was seen already last week maybe the don't think it's urgent. My husband deals with all the vet things but I did go in there last Thursday and told them about the bleeding and the vet wasn't back until the Friday. The receptionist said he would probably want to see him on the Friday. I was surprised the appointment was made for 5 days later.

Thank you everyone for your responses.
They have normally been very good. It's just frustrating when there is obviously something wrong.

A bleeding dog is much more urgent than that.
I am a veterinary receptionist and sometimes vets can be hard to get hold of/very busy but I would've made sure you were seen before that.

Hi All so I just wanted to update you. We took him this morning and they kept him in done a biopsy removed 2 teeth took photos and as one of the teeth was so deep there was some extra skin so they removed some of the tumor and said that's given us an extra month before things get serious. The bleeding was because the teeth were being surrounded by the tumor it's an aggressive tumor

Oh gosh. I hope the dog is more comfortable. Difficult month ahead but I hope it can be relatively peaceful and you can all just get to appreciate the time. Thank you for updating.

pigsDOfly · 17/05/2018 12:25

Thanks for the update Butterfly. I hope he's more comfortable now and wish you well for the time you have together.

Don't let them put you off if, and when you feel an appointment is urgent. Flowers
