Puppy explosive diarrhoea

Hi my poor pup is 9.5 weeks and woke up this morning with explosive diarrhoea. He is fine otherwise wants fed (not very happy he's not been fed) and isn't warm, not blood no lethargy, though he will get lethargic if I don't feed him. He is a Giant type dog so needs a lot of food. On looking at the poo and the dog I don't think he needs a vet (unless it continues for more than 24 hours) any advice?
I think it was either a not clean enough bowl or he ate a flower from the plum tree cause he eats everything!

Mine had a few bouts like that when he was very young and I did take him to the vets because of his age and risk of getting dehydrated. He was given an injection, probiotics and rehydrating fluid.

Has he recently had some jabs? Ours had a dodgy tummy for a couple of days after his injections. I didn't take him to the vet, we just made sure he was drinking and offered some plain foods like boiled chicken and scrambled eggs.

No jabs those are on Wednesday. I am going to give him some rice and chicken and maybe a scrambled egg later. Poor mite Sad

Is he eating and drinking? Boiled chicken and rice stay down. Little and often and plenty of cuddles.

If he vomits or it happens again or he goes off his food for the rest of the day take him to a vet - he’s too little for a day of of that- give him plenty of water and little and often food etc

He’s 9 weeks? Is he on the same food as he was weaned? If you change the food most dogs are ill if it is not phased

My vet lets me call them and discuss it so just give them a call. Then they'll usually tell me if I need to take them in for an emergency visit. Puppy shits isn't unusual, keep an eye on if he's drinking water.

bertielab we did change his food but gradually over 7 days to raw ironically because his stools were loose and the breeder food really didn't agree with him. The stools were loose but not like this. He wants to eat and drink so I am going to give him a little meal of rice and chicken and maybe scrambled egg as he has not pooped now for 2 hours. I think it's something I have done and he seems in reasonable spirits still being a pain in the ass thanks for all the advice makes me realise I might be doing the right things.

geekone · 29/04/2018 15:05
