Runny eyes

My girl is 11 (elderly for her breed), she’s showing signs of getting old, her eyes have started to run, one slightly more than the other, it doesn’t seem to bother her but because she’s white it’s leaving brown stains to her fur. Is it worth a visit to the vets? She hates going. Or are there any eye drops I can buy for her?

My dog's eyes have been a bit wet of late so I mentioned it to the vet on a visit regarding something else. Didn't realise it was infected but I now have drops to put in twice a day, heaven help me.

Might be worth a visit just to make sure she's not uncomfortable with an eye infection.

Watery eyes will be a sign of infection or irritation. Irritation can be caused by dry eyes and an over production of tears to compensate, but could also be caused by a foreign object, lump, or other conditions.

Worth a trip to the vet to rule out anything that needs specific treatment and to see how to best make her eyes comfortable.

If they were your eyes would you start putting random drops in without consulting a professional optician/doctor first?

Been treating my dog with eye drops twice a day for a couple of days now - bless her she's being so good about it and sits patiently while I put them in - and the difference is already apparent.

As I said before, I didn't realise they were infected - no puss or anything just a bit wet - but I can already see she feels more comfortable.

Only another 8 days to go.

Always worthwhile getting these things looked at.

Definitely worth a trip to the vets, could be an ulcer (or anything else) and that needs treatment asap :-)

Hope she's better soon :-)
