Now that frontline isn't working any more (for my dog anyway) what is the alternative?

I wondered about this for my cat. I have had many cats. Our last cat lived to be 14. He never had fleas for years until I started using frontline, and then he had them all the time. I have an 8 month old kitten, and don't know what to use. I used to use flea powder on the cats before i started frontlining our last cat, and that seemed to work!

I was using advocate for my cats and now have been given stronghold. I buy it from the vet

Floralnomad · 20/04/2018 22:40

You need to be using something on prescription from the vet , the non prescription flea treatments are useless .

Thanks, off to the vet next week then 🙂

I use Advantix on mine. Excellent stuff.

Do not use on your dog if you also have cats in the same house however.

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 18:11

Definitely get something from the vet. I use nexgard spectra which does fleas, worms and ticks in one monthly tablet.

PhoenixRisen · 21/04/2018 18:17

Bravecto is good.

There is some controversy on line, but that's like with most new medecines.

A dose every three months (so three a year as not needed at the beginning of winter) prevents ticks and fleas.

Hotcrossbun99 my I suggest you ask the vet for just a prescription and order online? What should have cost me just short of £200 for 2 cats +4 dogs cost me £70 online. You need to pay about £8 for him /her to sign then can order direct. Guidelines on dose /sizes when you order. Very simple!!

samlovesdilys · 21/04/2018 18:23

We use advantage and my cat is much happier for it!!

lovetoomuchfood · 21/04/2018 20:57

Another big fan of nexgard and bravecto here... Remember to get something to cover lungworm too :-) (advocate/prinovox/milbemax/milpro/nexgard spectra are the ones I know that cover it)

hotcrossbun99 · 21/04/2018 21:13

Thanks everyone! I'll do as suggested xx
