What level of insurance do people have? The lifetime cover on offer from the KC is £15000 or £7500

I have the petplan one of £4000 and knowing what I know now having claimed thousands in the first two years I would have got a much higher amount.

I have 7500... I ran out one year...had to pay the rest myself.

Get the highest you can afford. To give you an idea of costs. Admitted to the vets with multiple X-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests, poo tests and drugs etc due to severe D&V spanning a few weeks came to over £2000.

An emergency admission and operation to remove a rag stuck in his intestine over £1700

Other issues such as needing an endoscopy to diagnose an illness over £500. Cut paw pad that wouldn't heal a few hundred.

My vets are cheap as well compared to others.

I have a claim going through with Kennel Club at the moment. The first invoices were sent in at the end of February and have yet to be processed.

I am sure they will be eventually but I am deeply unimpressed with their processing timescales. Had I known they would be so slow I'd have chosen a different insurer.

Luckily I am currently "only" owed some £240 or so myself but the vet and specialist vet bills are much more. They are having to wait too. There'll be another couple of hundred pounds for next week's appointment which I guess they may settle sometime in June at the current rate.....

Typically I have been paid within 2 weeks of petplan getting the claim. One went missing but when it was submitted again they hurried it through within 1 week.

We have pet plan £4k for our 5 year old lab which costs £42/month and will continue to increase as he ages.

Used up £3.6k this year for Orthopedic care and surgery. Pet plan have paid every bill directly to my vet or the vet hospital promptly with no issues. Only problem we had was they wouldn't cover his weekly hydrotherapy as the nearest pool they would accept was over 3 hours drive away.
