Lab coughing when excited/exerted

My 1yr old lab has recently started coughing after playing. Normally when he's been excited by playing with new people and had short bursts of running.

He's fine on and after walks even though he runs a lot on those. He also stays at home so I don't think it could be kennel cough. But it's still worrying, do you think it's something that needs to be checked out?

Do go to the vets. It may be kennel cough which is contagious and feels rotten for the dog. Heart conditions can also lead to coughing after exertion.

Do get it checked ASAP, my welsh springer started doing this and it was a paralysed larynx. He had to have surgery to pin one side open so he could breathe. Downside is he has a much higher chance of aspirating food now, so it’s a fix but it does come with its own problems.

But yes, vet as soon as you can.
