Dog jealous of baby?

I just wanted some thoughts on this.

DS is 11 months. Doggy is 2.5 years. Doggy goes to doggy daycare weekdays from 9am to 2pm. He loves being out and about with his doggy pals and it makes me feel better about going out with DS knowing Doggy is getting loads of exercise. He will usually come back tired and sleep for a while, usually while DS is napping. As soon as I get DS up and bring him downstairs to play Doggy is right there with Kong desperate for me to play with him. He will stand with it his mouth staring into my soul or whine until I give in. I usually find myself on the floor playing with balls etc with DS with one hand and playing with Kong with the other! If I was to sit on couch while DS eating or something Doggy would go and lie down and then if I started to play with DS again he would be right back with Kong.

It's not that I don't want to play with Doggy but I don't know if he really wants to play or if he is trying to divert me from DS. They get on ok together so far, no aggression or anything. Doggy is usually interested in sniffing DS or sitting beside him on the floor.

Am I giving Doggy too much credit for manipulation or is he just being a playful dog? 😆

Dogs can get a bit jealous of not getting attention they think should be theirs... but if he’s a fairly well balanced dog who’s not showing any other issues round your DS, he’s more than likely just going...playing, I could do that too, yay!!

If it’s annoying, ignore him and give him somewhere better to be, send him to bed with something good to occupy him, if you do that often enough he’ll do that off his own back, if not you can do more formal training for it.

Thanks for the reply. I think he just really likes playing! Can't wait until he and DS can play together!
