Kc papers

Strawberryshortcake40 · 14/03/2018 14:34

We got our puppy over 6 weeks ago. First jab and microchip done, but breeder hadn't received Kc paperwork so would send this to us.

But 6 weeks later we still haven't got them and the puppy is still registered to the breeder on the microchip (which I'm told I can't change without the paperwork).

I've contacted her a couple of times but now she isn't replying to me. At this point what can I do?

(I have a receipt for the money and I bank transferred the money so have record of that. )

Not getting the KC paperwork before you leave with a puppy is a huge red flag that they’re dodgy breeders... you can contact the KC to see if they are registered (they’re probably not though)

The paperwork you need for the microchip isn’t the KC registration, it’s the paperwork for the microchip itself, you could possibly try the vet that chipped the litter if the breeder isn’t answering you?

Do you have the microchip paper and has the chip been checked ( scanned by a vet)?

Bubble2bubble · 14/03/2018 16:53

There is no reason at all not to give you the paperwork with the puppy, so sadly I would be suspicious that the papers actually exist.

I would be worried she can't register them
for various reasons (not pedigree or breed too many times).

Whitney168 · 14/03/2018 16:59

KC registrations are normally very speedy, unless there is some issue.

If you want to PM me the details of the litter (mother, father, date of birth), I'll check whether the litter is actually registered to start with.

When changing the kennel club registration into your name you get a free first transfer of microchip details if done at the same time (with Petlog - see here) Other than that, there's no need for the KC paperwork in order to change the chip details, it just means you'll need to pay the transfer fee. Have you got the chip number and the name of the database it's registered with? It should just be a case of giving them a call.

I doubt that the KC paperwork exists if you haven't received it yet, there is no good reason at all for it not to have been handed over when you collected the puppy.

Strawberryshortcake40 · 14/03/2018 17:49

Yes I have the microchip paperwork and the chip has been scanned so I know that's okay.
Hadn't realised I could just transfer it anyway, will do that in the morning. Thank you.

It didn't seem odd to me at the time because I had something similar when I bought a pedigree kitten once and the paperwork wasn't quite ready but the breeder posted it onto me. But obviously it's different with dogs.

They are Kc assured breeders for the other breed of dog they breed, on the Kc site for that.

Report them to KC. Assured breeders should not be selling puppies as KC registered, then be unable to provide papers.

Presuming you have the dams registered name, sign up to myKC on KC website. You can then check for a litter and see if your pups was registered. Then go from there.

Does your receipt for puppy say it was for a KC registered puppy?

Strawberryshortcake40 · 14/03/2018 18:46

I don't know the dams registered name. Only her pet name.
Yes my receipt says Kc reg.

When we picked the puppy up we had a whole envelope full of paperwork and all manner of things. The breeder said all that we didn't have was the Kc number to change the microchip. But actually I haven't got much official paperwork at all

Also contact trading standards, as your receipt says KC registered but it appears puppy isn't.
