Puppy “biting” older dogs legs

Puppy is 1 older dog is 8/9

They do adore each other, sleep together, play together and are affectionate towards each other.

BUT youngster often nibbles the older dogs legs (in play) which brings her to a standstill. She will also don’t if i’ve called the older one and she’s taken a bit of time coming back to me.

I say bite in very loose and general terms as she often “bites” me, nibbling my sleeve or my fingers in a very NON aggressive affectionate way. She is definitely not hurting the older one, although sometimes it’s done when they are moving quite fast which worries me :)

i can’t state enough how NON AGRESSSIVE she is, she has never been told off by the older dog (wimp) and isn’t snappy or unpleasant to any other dogs - or smaller animals. She is genuinely lovely apart from this odd nibbling that i’m curious about!

Any advice? I’ve not encountered this form of play in the many years we’ve had dogs!

Mine do this. The younger one will often stand in front of the older one and nibble at legs. They also do it if I recall older dog, like the younger one is trying to stop him?

I just assumed the older dog would tell the younger one off if it became a problem!

Is the puppy a herding breed?

A lab :) I often wonder if it's part affection and part "you are messing with mummy, you need to be a good girl"

Older one has never seemed bothered more "oh for goodness sake " Smile
