Patterdale or Cockapoo?

I'm a terrier girl (we already have a JAck Russell that I had pre husband and child), and are thinking of getting a new dog.
I would love a patterdale, but thinking a cockapoo might be more family friendly? As in a bit more laid back and chilled out?

How could you resist one of these?!

We have a Patterdale (known here as our lapperdale)and he’s the softest dog ever, loves people and other dogs. He is tough though, and loves to hunt, but has pretty good recall. He’s ideal for an active family, but is more than happy to slob out. He does need a really good walk everyday, but with plenty of exercise he’s a delight. His only downside is constantly farting.

My parent have a patterdale and also she's a lovely dog, she is a bit of hard work! Very jealous if any attention is paid to their other dog, barks like mad at the postman. Not great with kids. Good with adults and as an only dog. Loves to sleep all day by the fire given half a chance! Really hates cats. They wouldn't give her up for the world, but the breed is not for an inexperienced dog owner
