Possibly the vainest question in the Doghouse... collar colours?

I can't work out what colour of collar (and hence lead) to buy PestDog Blush

He's black and tan with a flash of white on his chest. Black would suggest a cool colour, tan would suggest a warm colour, and white's impractical because he's mud magnet. And then you (apparently) shouldn't choose a collar that's the same colour as your dog.

He looks a bit like this colour wise, but with the white flash on the front.

Fashionistas please advise Grin

My black cocker had a black collar with skull and cross bones, really suited her - she was a rebel to the core.

My white and black cocker has the same.

The leads are black and orange and black and purple, they were a rather expensive first ever Crufts purchase - have had them years and there is no sign of wear.

I don't know if I'm allowed to say supplier names or such on here? If I am I'll happily share.

PestDog is handsome.

Ylvamoon · 22/02/2018 20:43

I assume PestDog is a girl... (something missing..Blush.)

Have a look at those: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00X3GISRA/ref=twister_B076J2GJXS?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforum-21

The brand Blueberry has a huge range of colours and patterns ...

FlamingGoat · 22/02/2018 20:44

My Black and Tan digs have red. Sets off their colouring nicely.

mirren3 · 22/02/2018 20:52

I came on to say red too, it would look great with a shiny black coat.

SleightOfMind · 22/02/2018 20:52

silver peacock

I’ve got big, muddy, lively hounds and, as well as being beautiful, these really stand up to wear and tear.

CMOTDibbler · 22/02/2018 20:53

I'd try an orange on him. I have one white and fawn dog who can wear just about any collar colour (note: we have lurchers - fancy collars are a way of life), but my dark blue and fawn dog is really hard to suit. His best collars are orange with blue stars, swirly orange, and rainbow stripe. His tag collar is rolled leather in orange.

I think Black and Tan carries deep strong colours well but the white flash could open you up to softer colours. How close to the throat does the blaze go?

Ddog1 is black with white chest, her collar is red tweed from Paws and Hounds.

Ddog2 is fox red and has a purple/pink tartan tweed collar from Paws and Hounds.

Elphame · 22/02/2018 22:35

Black and Tan here. Collar has to be red!

Floralnomad · 22/02/2018 22:45

Our dog is black and his house collar is Thistle and looks gorgeous , however all his coats and jumpers are dark green and that suits him as well .

Squirrel26 · 23/02/2018 08:05

I’d also recommend Blueberry collars, SquirrelDog’s has lasted really well and doesn’t look worn at all, plus his has reflective tape woven through it. He wears olive green, but he’s ginger and white. Sounds like PestDog would suit something brighter.

I would go for red with your DDog

Bamaluz · 23/02/2018 16:43

Red would be good, purple would be fabulous.

I would try tan actually.

Faintlinesquints · 23/02/2018 17:15

I would suggest tan, would look nice offset against the black.
I'm recently in love with the Barbour collars and have got a couple for my chocolate lab, one leather and one in a khaki tartan print.

Soubriquet · 23/02/2018 17:18

I absolutely adore this company. They are very well made

red dingo

Red or blue would look lovely.

totallyliterally · 23/02/2018 17:22

Can I jump in and ask has anyone found a waterproof (mudproof) collar that you can wipe clean?

Bright blue or bright purple. Maybe a deep but bright green.

Personally I'd avoid red on a dog with tan markings. Although red looks brilliant on solid black.

userxx · 23/02/2018 19:31

Purple looks fab against glossy black.

CatchyUsername · 24/02/2018 22:04

Black dog. Red collar.

It’s the law.

WeAllHaveWings · 24/02/2018 23:14

Our black lab has two collars (and matching leads Blush). One red and one blue.

The red suits him much better but other owners then think he is a bitch.

For your dog I’d go with a deep blue.
