Spaying

Anyone had their bitch spayed recently?
Our rescue girl needs spaying but it's a long time since I had to deal with the aftercare
I'm concerned as we live in a flat, up a good few stairs

I think the recommendation is strict rest for 2 weeks. What size dog is she? Could you carry her up and down the stairs even just for the first few days? If not i wouldn't worry too much as long's she takes her time and isn't running up and down then she should be fine

My standard poodle was spayed last month and we have a lounge on first floor. We were advised to carry her up and down for first 48 hours and then we had a routine vet check. After that she went up and down herself but on lead to control the speed.

Also, I would recommend the medical vest for your dog to wear afterwards. Ours didn't mind it on, just remember to undo it when she needs a wee (lesson learned there!) After her routine 10 day check all was ok and we were told to take vest off. Big mistake, she licked the scar until it became inflamed and then infected. £80 for meds on top of spay. She's out the other side now and all things considered it wasn't as bad as I imagined. Worst part was her being on lead when she was infected. Try telling a 16 month poodle to "be calm". Good luck, it's worth it on the end.
