Myself and my husband are getting a puppy; we pick her up on the 3rd March. We are getting a golden retriever pup and she will be 8 weeks old.

I've been looking at insurance and was initially thinking as our house insurance is with direct line to take out pet insurance with them but I've since seen about lifetime insurance.

Now I have no idea what's best and who's best to go with for insurance; can anyone help?

There have been a few threads on here discussing the same subject so you might want to search for them.

Get a life policy and as much per limit as you can afford as vet fees can mount up. I am with petplan and can't fault them as they have paid out around £2.5k in the first year with injuries and illnesses.

I echo what shark said, make sure you have lifetime cover and seriously, Petplan are the only pet insurance company I would ever recommend.

Direct Line, along with many others, do lifetime policies and I have never had any issue claiming from them so would recommend.

I’m with direct line, have a lifetime policy which was slightly more expensive than I wanted to pay but I got cash back through quidco and it’s a better level of cover than alternatives. I hope I never need it but can’t afford to take the chance.
