Does anyone else browse rescue dogs ala right move?

I am. This will out me, so I have nc.

I'm looking for a 3rd dog for 'work'; stables, canixrossing and bikejoring. Old Kelpie now retired. Dog2 just an idiot.

So dog 3 needs to be a male kelpie. Primary school age children, secure garden. Fit and healthy. Good with horses and recall. VERY specific, and so far nothing available. And that's fine as I'll need to work on DH anyway Smile

But am I alone in 'browsing'. Online only, not actually around kennels I'd end up with something ridiculous like a beautiful sofa surfing greyhoundShock

Yes. Total animal count presently 9. But was 12. 1 chicken 1 cat and 1 horse all died in last 18 months. They need replacing. But with dogs. Dogs don't wake you up at 4 am in summer. Don't bring in half dead things or kick you. I go and walk rescues. Do knows it is only a matter of time

Oh I ride a rescue horse too. Luckily I don't have to pay for him. Maybe that should work in my favour while convincing DH for Kelpie3

HomeHand I remind her ever so seriously of how long she was in the rescue (8 months, she was the dog that had so many 'conditions' that not many families would have been able to meet them), and how sad she was with no family, and wouldn't it be nice if some other sad little dog was able to share our love and our sofas, but she is resolutely Not Interested!

To all those dog gazers who can't own one, please consider the Cinnamon trust, they are a charity who matches people who have dogs but can't walk them to people who want to walk dogs but can't have them, they also organise foster carers for people who go to hospital etc.

My friend recently nursed her husband through terminal cancer, she couldn't leave the house, and the cinnamon trust organised 3 lovely ladies who split the week between them to walk their 2 dogs. One of them had the dogs so they weren't left alone during the funeral. They have also continued to help since he died so my friend has been able to go to appointments etc. As the dogs have been very clingy since he died and hate to be left alone.

I really don't know how they would have managed without them, Brilliant charity.

Nope. See photo of ginger menace on sofa above clever working dog. So selfish.

This is my sofa, all for me, no other dogs allowed thanks!!

Bubble2bubble · 14/02/2018 18:54

mupflup I have just rehomed a rescue with another dog who has apparently hated other dogs. Over a period of about 6 weeks we did initially very short introductions and then met up for nice lead walks. Sad little dog hating doggie has got loads of confidence from his new friend and things are going really well :)

caffeinequick · 14/02/2018 18:55

Yep I love doing this. Not in a position to rehome as my lovely dog is not one for canine company.

Tatie3 · 14/02/2018 18:56

Yes I do it all the time, I'd love a little rescue whippet as a friend for my retired greyhound but husband isn't having it. Doesn't stop me looking though!

HomeHand · 14/02/2018 19:16

@SqueakyChicken yes. Dexter looks amazing, but in his profile it said live with teenagers and no other dogs. He does have rather psycho-ish eyes too!

Oh my! Be still my beating heart

I do it all the time but we can't have another dog until we've moved, and it breaks my heart reading about all the poor dogs needing homes RIGHT NOW.

If only we had a huge stable...

Bloomed · 15/02/2018 01:02

I lost my lovely rescue dog a while ago and then moved into rented. I hope to raise the dog subject with my landlords soon. In the meantime am constantly browsing rescues. At around 1am on Valentine's night ...

Squirrel26 · 15/02/2018 08:17

I am Facebook friends with the people who looked after my rescue dog in the pound, so I see all the new dogs that come in needing homes...

I also do this with horses. I have a part loan horse. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT have time or money to buy one. And yet...
