Getting a new puppy shortly - what do people think about the different types of insurance? Is it worth getting the lifetime one and if so is there a particular insurer that you recommend?

Avoid animal friends at all costs. They're notorious for not paying out and excluding conditions.

There's a huge Facebook page about them and the problems owners have had with them not paying out.

All very helpful - thank you. Anyone got any knowledge of Aviva?

Our lifetime policy is with More Than with £4k limit.
Knowing what I know now , I would have gone with the higher £12k limit as vets bills can get very big very quickly.
The excess is only payable once per year which is great.
We're just about to go through a renewal so I don't know about their price hikes yet. I'm hoping not too bad (as duff dog has had endless claims this year!).

All 3 of our dogs have life time cover with John Lewis, 2 of whom have joint problems. Many claims over the past 5 years- all paid up with out quibble. We have just had a claim settled for nearly 5k for joint surgery on our cocker plus we have cover for up to 1k for alternative therapies such as physio/hydro which is proving to be w god send.
