Distraught Dog soothed by music

After a tough time in the vet today we were waiting in the car for DH to arrive with medicine, DDog almost beside himself. On my lap , frantic.

I turned on R3 to hear Grieg’s Peer Gynt suite 2, Solveig’s song played by oboe. Ddog immediately, instantaneously, calmed down. He got upset again when it went into the folk dance but as soon as it reverted to the oboe melody, he calmed. At the end I switched off and he was calmer, not entirely calm, but calmer.

I’ve known him get excited by a hunting horn but never calmed.
Normal dog calming music seems to have limited effect. Anyone else? Any other music ?

Interesting. I was out on a dog walk today but had to call the vets about the cat. The receptionist put me on hold and classical music played, the dog was transfixed by the sound!

I do use the relax my dog app if I’m out for a long time. As soon as it plays he calms right down, magic.

Maybe try some Bach (bark!)?

This probably sounds made up but my dog likes Elvis. I have music on when I'm ironing, dog is usually nowhere near as he's scared of the ironing board and the hiss of the iron. If I have Elvis on though, he comes in and lies on the kitchen floor.

We had a nightmare around bonfire night including the extended weekend of it. Thundershirt, plug ins, pills and spray did nothing (good old pets at home refunded it all).
He finally fell asleep next to my laptop playing sounds of the rainforest. Even the birds didn't make him barky like they do in real life

That’s really helpful. Diwali/Guy Fawkes to new year nightmare round here. Elvis and Grieg in the rainforest it is!
