New pup coming, what have I forgotten?

Our new puppy is coming on Monday. He is a little Bichon Frise. I think I have everything ready have done the following:

  • Booked a vet appointment for him on day#2 for his jabs and a check-up
  • Bought him a crate, bed, bowls, grooming stuff, the same food he is currently eating, toys, treats, a puppy kong and almond butter to block the hole
  • Got him a tag and collar, lead and harness with car seatbelt attacher
  • Been through the house with a fine tooth-comb to reduce puppy risk from small plastic toys, cables etc.
  • Moved my home office into the conservatory (wipe clean floor and easy access to the outside) so I can be with him all day
  • Got a puppy book, read the puppy book, bought clicker and have treats ready to start house training (prefer to avoid puppy pads but I do have some adult incontinence sheets to put in the car under towels for the first few travels.
  • Puppy proofed back garden
  • Got him a cardboard box to sleep in by my bed for the first few nights
  • Slept with towels and blankets for a few nights to scent them

So - what have I forgotten, there must be something?

Vast supply of Regina Blitz kitchen roll (I have tested all other rolls, and this is most absorbent and strong when mopping up)
Simple Solution spray
Crocs
Something warm, waterproof and long enough to protect your dignity while standing in the garden at 2am waiting for pup to wee. I can dive into my towelling dry robe in under 10s Smile
Dried sprats or other high value treats

Definitely these - and a torch by the back door!

PetraDelphiki · 02/02/2018 14:47

Regina blitz thirded!

Cath2907 · 02/02/2018 14:50

Right so oceans of kitchen roll need to be bought. we have Dettol and a specific pet stain remover spray. I have poop bags. I have a long dressing gown and a pair of crocs with furry liners. Looks like I need to find a torch.

He is definitely positively and utterly not sleeping in the bed! There is no room as I said this about the kid when she was born and at age 7 she still sneaks in far too often. Perhaps I send puppy to sleep with DD and they can both stay out of my bed?

Of course he is never sleep in your bedShock be careful using set-top as animals can be very sensitive to it and I think it can be toxic, speak to the vet first. You might be better off with Milton or pet spray.

Clicker training is fantastic HOWEVER - honestly I wouldn’t bother using one for housetraining.

If you’re observant and on the ball enough - ie if you make sure your pup is ALWAYS in the right place st the right time to pee/poo then a clicker is just an extra complication.

kennythekangaroo · 03/02/2018 09:29

Get a head torch not hand held as you won't have enough hands at 2am.

Have you got a car carrier of some sort?

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 04/02/2018 07:53

I have extensively tested the simple solution powder and much prefer it get accidents on the carpets. It takes 24 hours to do its thing fully so if you have a lot of little accidents there are quite a few little piles of white powder around the house Grin but it works very well.
