Visiting others

Thinking of getting a pooch, what do owners do when going to visit family and friends? I will be home lots in theory in between school runs but leaving the doggy for hours whilst visiting others seems a tricky task to overcome

If family then I take him along but all my family are doggy people and have dogs of their own.
If visiting friends then I always ask, whether they’re dog owners or not if we’re visiting for a long time. If only a couple of hours he’ll stay at home after a good walk.
Anything over 3 hours and he’ll hang out at my mums or we have a lovely dog day care/Walker who we book him in to.
We are happy for almost dogs to come over here too but there are instances we’ll say no (if lots of kids here) and friends always respect that. Just remember that until pup has matured he won’t be able to stay alone for long at all so best to find a walker/friend who can help out.

He either comes with me (he's a popular house guest with my family) or stays with DFriend. He's an adult though, and we've never had to deal with the whole can't leave the puppy stage.

You either have to be no longer than around 4 hours ( less for a puppy)
Or get a dog sitter/walker .
Some people may invite your dog to go with you, if not don’t take it or you will be a CF

I take them when possible, when it’s not I’m on a time limit or they go to my dad who loves them Smile. I’m very lucky to have a dog sitter though!

When Elfpup was small he just came with me - those who didn't want dogs in their home had the choice of come to visit me, meet on neutral ground (pub/cafe) or just not meet up.

Now he's 6 months old I am happy to leave him home alone for 3-4 hours.
