Burned paws

Not me, but another dog owner near me.

Her dog has paws which appear burned or scraped away all of a sudden. Dog is being treated by the vet, but they don't know what it was caused by. No exceptional exercise or unusual walking surfaces.

Dog was, however, walked on a pedestrian footpath which may well have been gritted or de-iced by the council. My concern is that this could be the root cause.

Can standard grit cause these kinds of burns to dog paws? Or anything else anyone knows of?

Ice + salt mixture will cause burns.

Yes that's why it's advised to always wash your dogs paws after walking on grit. Also to stop them ingesting it when cleaning them.
