Anyone who has had a large male doberman, how long has it lived for please? Also did it get wobblers syndrome? Thank you!

A large % of Dobermans sadly die young due to DCM. I lost mine at 8 after 14 months on medication. I would recommend looking it up, getting youready dog tested once a year ish. I hope your dog never gets it though, it was heartbreaking.

I have known Dobes that have lived to be 10/11/12 though! :)

Thank you Isit, sorry to hear about yours :(
My partner lost 2 of his to wobblers, they were about 11 I think- just wondered if that was typical.

Most wobbling Dobies are quite a bit younger than 11. 11 is actually a fair age for a big dog.

That is true, villainous. Something has to take them. My ridgebacks seem a fraction more hardy though, they seem to get to 12/13 then get cancer.

Thank you. Yeah they seem to have a short life span, even for a big dog. Mine also had cancer when she was a 2yo. We were lucky it never returned after her op.

I'd always kept my eye out for signs of wobblers. As I'd never heard of dcm until she was diagnosed.

New one on me too :(

My MIL’s Doberman died last year at 14. She was lovely.

Dobermans are one of my favourite breeds. I love them, handsome dogs have met some absolute sweethearts.....But genetically the breed is in massive trouble and DCM and wobblers are rampent and it doesnt seem like this issues can be bred out because of genetic diversity issues.
