What has he done to himself?!

So pooch is a 9 year old greyhound. He has a touch of arthritis in his front left leg which causes him stiffness and a bit of soreness if he's cold. Other than that he's fit and well. This morning we came back from our early AM walk, soaking wet. He came into the house as normal, went into the lounge, gave a great big 'wet dog shake' and instantly started screaming and crying and holding up his left leg. Since then, he won't get up off the floor not to eat or anything. He's clearly hurt himself but what on earth could he have done just from shaking himself? I rang the vets this morning and they are going to ring me back around lunchtime to see if someone can come out and look at him. In the meantime, I was wondering if anybody has a clue? Could he have sprained something or twinged a muscle?

Oh poor sorry to hear this. Mine would never eat whilst staying at the vets, even lovely bits of chicken etc they wouldn't touch anything, though once home would happily eat. Hope your ddog enjoyed his roast.
How is he doing today - any news? Flowers

ThymeLord · 26/01/2018 12:59

No update as yet. He wouldn't eat at all when we went to see him last night. He looked awful, it was really really upsetting to see him. He was shaking from the tips of his ears to his tail, but they said that was due to the methadone he was on. He was so stoned he barely recognised us. His leg had swollen to probably four times its normal size and the skin was bright red. He went into surgery this morning and I am still waiting for a 'phone call to hear that it went OK. The longer it goes on the more worried I am getting Sad

Oh Thyme, we lost our last two Greyhounds within weeks of each other.

It’s devastating, I’m so sorry.

He sounds like such a sweet, lovely dog. He was loved and lucky to have had that time with you.

Look after yourself, it’s so hard to lose them.
