Anyone have a bearded collie?

Hi there,
We got a bearded collie pup last Yr, he's now 13 months old. From working line not kc.
He's got a few issues, he's incredibly nervous, destructive eg chewing walls, furniture, gloves. Also he shows signs of food aggression, we've tried all the normal ideas but nothing seems to work.
He gets plenty of leash walking and free running.
We've always had dogs but he's our first beardie. Love him to bits but really need this sorting out...
Thanks

I had a rescue from Battersea many years ago. I don't know if she was KC or working as she was a puppy so they thought she was a border. When she grew we figured out that was a case of mistaken identity.
She was hard work and 13 months is still young for a collie. Issues continued well past 2 but it got easier. Have you enrolled in any classes? I enrolled in a collie specific class which was a godsend.

Hi Lino
Yes we took him to puppy classes and he did OK but never really progressed past basic commands.
I'll try and find a collie class fingers crossed, thanks

I've got a border collie who is four and she was a nightmare as a pup. Farm bred so not really toilet trained, and she was very destructive, she ate six electric razors for example (would open cupboards to eat them in the end).
She has calmed down a lot as she's gotten older, she is crated while we are out and at night. I didn't want to use a crate but she doesn't destroy anything or soil there as she did when out, so I think it has helped calm her separation anxiety. We try to make sure she has puzzle toys and a frozen food stuffed Kong, and TV on if we're out, as we thought she was bored without us and that made her destructive.

She also loves the kitten we got, and later her kittens. There are three cats in the house now and she enjoys playing with them gently, they will approach her to play so enjoy it too. I'm not sure getting your dog a pet is to be recommended though!

Good luck, I was in tears when she was one as I thought we would have to give her away due to her behaviour, but now she's like a different dog and I could never give her up.
