General dog chat

Anyone fancy a general dog chat thread?

BiteyDog is now almost 15 months old and it's about time we ditched the puppy survival thread for general chit chat but it's still nice to chat about our doggie dilemmas and days so if anyone wants to join me in wittering on saves BiteyDog having the listen to my incessant talking at him then welcome aboard.

How's all the dogs coping with the snow in the northern parts? I am sick of the rain and I guess fortunate enough that BiteyDog doesn't like it much either so apart from a 20 min ball run we are snuggled up in the house today.

I had every intention of using kennels when I got BiteyDog and even now still have the KC vaccination so we can put him in one in an emergency if we simply had no alternative. However we have never needed to default to the kennels yet which I am glad as I know BiteyDog is too sensitive to not be upset with the numbers of dogs and ultimate noise of kennels. I think part of that is why we had behavioural issues with BiteyDog after his admissions to the vets because putting aside him being 'treated by strangers' he was in kennels with other noisey dogs (when I visited their were lots of barking from other ones).

I suspect it's a bit of both with CocoDog. She probably is the same as BiteyDog in that it stressed her out as well as you picking up the signs of that more readily. Hopefully in a day or two she's back to herself.

My adult DC grew up with our gung-ho Labrador and really don’t understand , they think I am over protective of her, empty nest syndrome I suppose. DH is a just get on with it sort though and he was the first to say that kennels aren’t right for coco. She is a confident dog but dislikes being barked at. The only behaviour problem we will have will be her reluctance to get back in the car, going to take her down into the village for a walk this morning, short car ride, bit of cheese should do it hopefully😁 Thanks bitey, nice to talk to those who understand.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 26/02/2018 07:31

Painkillers seem to be working so he’s more comfortable this morning - still not right though so roll on Thursday...

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 26/02/2018 08:12

Bitey, hope all goes well today at the vets and you get some answers.

BiteyShark · 26/02/2018 08:17

nice to talk to those who understand. oh it's so nice to have found a place like this as I am sure people at work are a bit Hmm when I mention all the stuff with BiteyDog.

noitsnotteatimeyet glad he's more comfortable and the wait for us over the weekend was bad enough so I bet waiting till Thursday seems a life time.

Arrived early at vets so sat in car waiting to go in. Ironically he seems better but I guess that might just be the drugs masking it.

Oh been offline all weekend, just seen all your updates about Biteydog Sad

hope today goes well Flowers

BiteyShark · 26/02/2018 18:24

I have a very wobbly, sleepy and confused boy back at home from the GA but at least he's home.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 26/02/2018 19:01

I'm glad he's home. Hoping it all went well and you will have answers.
Poor teatime toller too. Poor poorly puppers.

steppemum · 26/02/2018 21:08

Oh poor bitey dog Sad
When will they have the results?

BiteyShark · 26/02/2018 22:40

They are hoping end of week for results. His bottom reacted very badly after the last GA he had and given the smells he is making at the moment looks like that might happen again Sad

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 26/02/2018 23:30

Oh no. Have you been given anything to calm his belly?

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 01:04

The smell has finally stopped so fingers crossed it was just 'gas' (tmi). We have stuff to calm the stomach but not the other end so hoping we don't have a repeat of last time. Just been out for a quick toilet break as I didn't want to wake him earlier and he seems a lot less confused but still very wobbly on his legs. I do hope we didn't put him through this for nothing Sad.

How's WolfieDog doing?

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 27/02/2018 07:00

Must be a day for vomiting

Madam threw up in the night...-all over my bed Envy

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 07:12

Soubriquet poor thing. I must be lucky as BiteyDog always gets off the bed and goes and finds a corner in the room to vomit on. Much easier to clean up Grin.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 27/02/2018 07:25

She normally does but I've moved all the bedrooms round on Sunday so she's a bit confused to be in the room we are.

Keeps going to go to the room we were in.

I think she's gonna have to go to the vet. She's still not eating properly, keeps having the squits and is now vomiting.

Brilliant

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 07:37

Yes definitely sounds like vet time Sad.

BiteyDog keeps letting out little squeeks so not sure if he is in pain or just fed up.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 27/02/2018 07:42

Poor pup. Give him lots of cuddles

Squirrel26 · 27/02/2018 08:24

Poor puppies Sad

SquirrelDog stays with one of his trainers who also does home boarding when I go away. He loves her (she has to shout instructions from half way down the hall or he gets too excited), but my God He was cross with me last time I picked him up. It took him about a week to settle properly. I guess it’s normal - he’s had a lot of disruption in the past. I think I’ll have to start leaving him more often, but just overnight so he gets the idea that I’ll always come back for him.

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 08:29

Squirrel26 BiteyDog is also out of sorts when he returns from home boarding. It's as if he's not sure whether he's 'home' or not.

Bitey, is he on the GI food from the vets, at the moment, expensive and rubbish ingredients but firmed coco up almost instantly. But then she wasn’t vomiting. Try not to worry about putting him through a GA, you have to investigate this because he has got a bit of a history now.Poor biteydog and little madam, hope they are both better soon. At least you have an excuse to stay in the warm. Today is my birthday and DH wants to take me and coco to the beach and onto lunch. Going to take a ball because I can’t see us lasting long on the beach in the cold today and a Kong for coco to have whilst we are eating.😁

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 09:20

Both DH and I have decided that we won't do any more investigations after this. If nothing comes back then we will just ask to be 'treated' each time he is ill enough without any diagnosis which is one of the options we had on Saturday.

Wrap up warm for the beach because it's freeeeezing out there Grin.

Happy birthday Cake🎉

Appointment booked for 4.30. Dh is not impressed as we can't really afford it but needs must.

Happy birthday!!!

It's madams birthday on Sunday. She will be 1. My Ds will be 3 on the same day Grin

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 10:48

Joint birthday party Grin

I am looking at another big insurance claim. The excess amounts do add up as well.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 27/02/2018 10:56

We don't have insurance yet...Dh keeps putting it off

BiteyShark · 27/02/2018 11:02

The next claim for this time round will put us around £2800 in paid claims (not including the excess). I am so glad we got it and we would have so many exclusions tagged onto us if we had waited. I would give your DH a shove because you only need one big thing to happen and the costs soon stack up.
