Can't get dog to take liquid lactulose..

My little shih tzu just keeps refusing and then starts growling and trying to get away

Any ideas on how I can get this in him ?

He's had a rough few days so I feel awful for him but he needs to have it to help him poor thing :(

Squirt the dose into a bowl and mix with something liquid but very yummy........I have never known natural yogurt to fail yet so that would be my first try.
If you are experienced its fairly easy to squirt the stuff into the back of their throat but it takes showing how......longer term get the vets to show you and practise with the nice stuff (eg yogurt) so it's not a problem going forwards.

Mix it with something nice!

Can sympathise with him re Lactulose, which is the most disgusting thing ever invented - but that aside, you have presumably tried picking him up so he's under one arm, and using the hand of that arm to trigger his 'open jaw' mechanism while squirting the stuff down his throat with your other hand? Sorry if you've already tried this, but I just remember it being the only way to get stuff into animals (we had about 20 when I was a child, so there was always one or another who needed to have some kind of medication).

Use the syringe to give him something he does like (honey maybe?) so he thinks it's a good thing!! Then when you do give him the medicine do it quickly and he won't notice. Then give him a nice one again - may need two syringes or even three to do nice, medicine, nice iyswim.
We do this with horses as trying to get them to take anything from a syringe can be very interesting!

Lactulose is quite sweet and it will work fine mixed in some food.
