Picking my puppies up in the morning.
Very excited.
Garden is secure, beds ready, toys, blankets, clean up pee removal system in place.

Of course it's admirable to want to pass on advice about obvious pitfalls
But let's not pretend that there is no difference between a friendly question about 'how are you set coping with two from the same litter. I've got some great resources if you need anything' and 'I hate to break it to you but unless you know about having two puppies then '

People can ask open, welcoming supportive questions which imply soloutions or they can be condescending and almost wishing for disaster.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 16/01/2018 13:54

I wouldn't wish for disaster at all and I'm not sure how you think it's condescending to mention something that many people are completely unaware of.

HoneyDragon · 16/01/2018 14:01

Intersstjngly, I was told by an interested dog behaviourist bod that my dogs fucked upness could’ve been improved into slightly less fucked upness if we’d possibly taken on one of her litter mates.

Litter of four, one returned to the breeder by deranged family, one clocked up in the thousands with behaviourists and the other two went to owners experienced with the breed who were told that due to a bad choice of parentage and neglect by the breeder from the off that they may have behavioural issues (translation: your dog will be batshit).

CouldaWouldaDidnt · 16/01/2018 14:06

It sounds like the OP knows what she is doing ^wolfiefan*

Glad to hear they are settling in well - and for more puppy pictures!

LadyinCement · 16/01/2018 14:14

They look like they'll be soooo cuddly of an evening...

The doghouse has some real meanies on it. When I got dog and was struggling, someone told me in no uncertain terms that I had made a terrible mistake in allowing dog to go in the garden by himself and he would be untrainable.

I have since diagnosed my dog's behaviour as having been due to him being... a puppy. All his wanderings round the garden led to him being the most devoted dog in the world. [Just adjusting feet in the big, warm, hairy coat underneath the desk.]

Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 14:15

Fair enough Wolfie, although I'm a bit surprised that you genuinely can't see the condescending tone. It's pretty obviously there...

"I hate to do this but you need to do some research on litter mate syndrome."

No harm done though. I'm happy with my decision and your need to pass on your expertise is negated slightly by your regarding the pretty well know issues of littermate syndrome as confounding and little known.

You just might want to think about your tone when talking to people on line. You may think your being supportive and passing on knowledge so it would be sad if that was translating to new owners as superior and judgemental.

OP posts:
HoneyDragon · 16/01/2018 14:17

(All littermate syndrome research is based on anecdotal evidence btw Pag)

Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 14:19

HoneyDragon
That's terrible! Awful breeders are a scourge.
Visiting mine was like being interviewed . She wouldn't let us see the puppies until we had properly met mum, dad and the rest of the family.
(I kind of wanted to steal dad TBH.) She's a great resource - I've been in contact daily and she's a mass of knowledge and really supportive.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 14:22

Yeah, I know Honey. It's a really interesting topic because you can absoloutely see how it happens but to me it's the creation of extreme doggy behaviours created by human behaviours.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 16/01/2018 14:27

It's not my tone that's rude and condescending Hmm

Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 14:33
Grin So you do know what condescending looks like

Just checking

OP posts:
picklemepopcorn · 16/01/2018 14:42

Come on people, let's not fight in front of two such lovely fur babies! I'm sure OP will get help at the first sign of problems. I only learned about it relatively recently, but those two look worth taking a risk for. I'd love and old English. And a wolf. And a bearded. And ... and... to be ho est, I'm a sucker.

BlueKarou · 16/01/2018 14:43

Oh, well they're absolutely adorable! I'm sure they'll have their bloody awful puppy stage, but don't they all?

Do OEs shed? I don't know the breed any further than the paint ads! They look like they'd be dropping hair all over the place (my samoyed x is a right bugger for shedding. Not just a blown coat twice a year, but constant white and black fluff all over the place - it's a beautiful nightmare)

mapmybum · 16/01/2018 14:52

Yes - do we still call them Dulux dogs? Grin

PUGaLUGS · 16/01/2018 15:01

Gorgeous pups Pag!

Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 15:18

They do shed Blue but it's manageable. It's not constant and it's minimised by regular grooming. Penisdog managed to shed almost exclusively on DHs trousers Grin

Mapmybum. Oh yes.
There is a massive deluxe dog in a local paint shop and DS2 always name checks him with PenisDogs name.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 15:19

Oh pickle - my first dog as a child was a bearded collie.
Loved him

OP posts:
HoneyDragon · 16/01/2018 15:47

The breeder was vile. After Hullygullys Mum was to all intent and purposes dognapped with her pups by the rescuer they thought that was the end as they signed her over to the rescuer in return for a guaranteed £200 per pup to cover her costs Hmm

She went out and then bought a poodle instead and started breeding Labrdoodles Angry

Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 15:57

GetDownDog · 16/01/2018 16:02

Wolfie has a point, not sure it's fair to flame her for saying it.
Lesser known posters have been ravaged for planning two puppies at the same time.

HoneyDragon · 16/01/2018 16:06

It’s not ok that anyone gets ravaged from the outset.

Pagwatch · 16/01/2018 16:14

It's worse that this can happen to 'lesser known posters'

Imo it's also a problem that you criticise the response and not the initial 'you don't know anything, you should educate yourself, give your dog away or it will die' tone from several posters.

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 16/01/2018 16:18

I don't think it was the point, more how it was expressed, and assuming Pagwatch had no idea rather than asking.

I find the cat topic similar, and would never ask for advice on there even though I'm an experienced cat owner and have been on MN for around 10 years.

MsHomeSlice · 16/01/2018 16:24

oh they are adorable!

I nearly had my own pair of puppies this week, because the snow meant a drop off was cancelled, but the snow got worse and has stopped them coming.

... am a guide dog puppy walker and very excited, for a whole other week, when hopefully all will be back to normal and it'll just be the one we are expecting!

They are just adorable pag-puppies!!

LadyinCement · 16/01/2018 16:39

I don't know about two puppies; I saw ddog's litter and had to be restrained from writing a cheque for all nine of them!

My dog trainer (or was it my trainer?!) was muttering about people getting two litter mates, but to be fair that was regarding inexperienced owners, who had the idea that somehow two dogs would be easier and would keep each other company. I suppose in some areas you have to make extra effort - house training for example and recall (presumably the slower one/adventurous one could lead the other astray). And can you imagine two sets of evening zoomies?! Awwww......
