Introducing 2 year old lurcher/springer to newborn baby

Hi all

I'm hoping to find some solid advice as to the best way to introduce our lovely dog to our baby. I'm not due for a few more months and this is our 4th DC. We got our Springer/Lurcher as a pup when our third DC was a toddler. And she has been amazing with all our children. A perfect (almost) family dog. I am very keen to maintain that harmony.

How should I introduce them? Doggy will be staying with friends while I'm in hospital. Should I be the one to pick her up, with baby in tow? Should DH do it and I be at home waiting? Or should we ask our friends to drop her back at home? How do people do this?

At the heart of the matter I don't want her to be distressed and I want to foster a good relationship between her and our new arrival right from the get go.

Any advice would be really appreciated. TIA

I would ask your friend to dog sit at yours.

Then dog is in situ when you return home and not being immediately displaced by your new bundle.

We bought our DD home to 2 dogs. JRx and ABDx.

We greeted dogs as normal, popped DD in the Moses basket and then let them in the living room (had child gates as both had a habit of escaping thru the window if open).

We let them have a sniff then took them back into the kitchen and left DD in the Moses basket (she was spark out) and made fuss of the dogs.

All was good. jR was massively jealous, but the ABD kept him in check.

DD was gutted when both passed away when she was 5.

We now have two more nutters.

Thanks single. I hadn't thought of that...worth asking for sure.
