My dog was put to sleep last Friday

He was a 7 month old German Shepherd
He had a degenerative Disintegrating bone disease, he already had a few fractures, liver failure and his pancreas wasn’t working, I gave him enzymes with each meal. He was in a lot of pain he cried a lot, No vet would operate on him due to his brittle bones, Vet said It was a birth defect.
I made a painful decision to put him to sleep last Friday, Ever since that day I’ve been heartbroken, feeling really depressed been crying a lot, and I miss him dearly.
I feel so much pain right now.
I even questioned my decision to put him to sleep.

Didn't mean to sent it 500 times 🙈

BitOfFun · 09/01/2018 01:18

Oh love, you did the right thing. Your poor boy.

HuskyMcClusky · 09/01/2018 01:22

I’m so sorry. Flowers

Please don’t question your decision. You absolutely did the right thing; keeping him alive and in pain would have been for your benefit, not his. You were kind and selfless when he needed it most. Xx

Borderterrierpuppy · 09/01/2018 01:52

You did the best thing you could have done, it really is our responsibility but so so difficult at the time. Bigs hugs to you x

bluetongue · 09/01/2018 11:31

You poor thing. Pup was so young Sad

It was absolutely the right decision even though at the time you feel awful about it. Pup had no quality of life and just got to go to sleep and not wake up. Flowers

I'm so sorry to hear this. You made the right decision for your pup. Be kind to yourself

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/01/2018 15:29

Poor little pup. I’m glad he found a loving responsible owner who knew what had to be done. I’m so sorry for you though. Flowers

Greyhorses · 09/01/2018 18:24

I'm so sorry humming. I also had a german shepherd with a generative disease although mine lasted a little longer and lived until 2.

I felt like I hadn't done enough but in reality I did as much as anyone could have and sometimes it's kinder to let them go.

I got another GSD puppy not long after which has filled a hole and when I see her so normal and happy it's made me realise what a poor quality of life my first one had Sad

I hope in time you feel better about it Sad

rightsaidfrederickII · 09/01/2018 21:02

What awful luck 😥

It sounds like there's nothing more you could or should have done. You gave him the best life you possibly could for the short time he could have on this planet, and when he could no longer enjoy life you let him leave. Please don't blame or question yourself - no vet would put down a 7 month old puppy if there was any viable alternative.

You must grieve, and that is an entirely normal and healthy process. You will come out the other side, and one day you will be able to open your heart to another dog who you will be able to care for and spend many long and happy years with.

HummingbirD7 · 09/01/2018 21:52

Thank you for your kind messages
Much appreciated.
I went to two vets Who refused to operate on him, The prognosis wasn’t good they said, Eddie my GSD Was in pain, he use to act crazy due to the pain, Confused sometimes, And when we were walking him he use to lay down to rest, a few times on our walks.
My heart is broken, Think I may be suffering from depression, I miss him And I love him,
I lit candles in church for him, The house is so empty without him, I can’t even Face the garden as I burst into tears, I know I’m grieving for him And I could never replace him. He will always have a special place in my heart.

HummingbirD, I thought of you tonight while I was talking with friends about dogs’ lifespans.

I am dreading my girl going, and I feel so sad for you. I hope you are okay. Flowers

It’s been really hard, My Son took me out to cheer me up in a different area. It’s also helped but I couldn’t help crying here and there. Even cried on the bus. I feel as if I’m falling apart and I really don’t know how to fix it. I miss my Eddie

So sorry OP, no wonder your so upset. It’s truly heartbreaking to make that decision, but you have done the right thing. Take it easy, it’s no bad thing to cry, I cried buckets with every pet we have lost. Flowers

HuskyMcClusky · 10/01/2018 19:19

Oh, love. I’m so sorry. If it helps any, you sound like the best kind of dog owner. I bet your Eddie had a wonderful life. It’s hurting so much because you loved him so much, and that means he loved you back 4x as much, because that’s how dogs are. 💞

ScreamingValenta · 10/01/2018 19:21

Flowers I'm so sorry. You did everything you could for him by taking him to two different vets; as a loving owner the best thing you could do was to end his suffering. I am sure his life, though brief, was filled with love and as much happiness as you could give him and I hope, in time, you will be able to remember the time you shared with him in peace.
