How to worm and de-flea a dog with epilepsy?

I have a 6 year old Springer x who is on Pexion for epilepsy. He also has CBD oil.

He used to have Bravecto regularly but I don’t want him to continue with this because of the seizures.

What else can I use - we live in quite a tick-y area.

What about nexgard spectra for worm, flea and ticks? Is epilepsy a concern with the ingredients in that tablet? Can you ask your vet or the manufacturer?

Does he have worms or fleas?

If not then I would only treat of they get them.
Use a worm count firm to check for worms. Stinky Stuff shampoo for if you see fleas.

I'm not sure if he has either at the moment, but when he was so very ill with a sickness bug last year it was a relief to know it wasn't caused by ticks. We live in a very tick-prone area and I would rather prevent than cure if at all possible.

Oh - and the vet recommends Bravecto, even though a possible side effect is seizures...

Bravecto has been linked to a lot of adverse reactions, some fatal. We live in a rural area but of still rather avoid it.
You can get a herbal supplement called Billy No Mates from CSJ which repels them though.

I learned a long time ago to take vet advice with a pinch of salt - ever since mine said Bakers was an ok dog food.

I use a spray from all natural pet website. Will do for ticks too ://www.allnaturalpet.co.uk

Nexgard spectra kills ticks. We have many in our area but they do have to bite him but they then die and you can easily pull them out. There is a seresto collar for ticks and fleas which lasts up to 8 months I think but then you would still need something for worms.

Nifflerbowtruckle · 07/01/2018 18:29

I haven't read all of the do's and dont's but you could try a seresto collar. It works for ticks and fleas. My dog hasn't had a tick since having one (she hasn't had fleas either but we also use advocate)

Advantix also does ticks and is a lot gentler than bravecto/nexguard/seresto etc. That being said they all contain pesticides that go into your dogs blood stream and it's up to you what you think is safe for your dog. If you do go for natural the lady also has a Facebook page under all natural pet and will happily advise you.
