Ddog is due to be pts tomorrow afternoon. He's currently sleeping peacefully on my knee, and I'm in bits DD5 is gutted. I don't want to lose him, but I know it's best for him. Still shit though

Oh no, OP. It is just such a difficult decision to make and so hard for any loving owner to face. They break our hearts, they really do.

Thanks all. I don't know why posted really. Just wanted to talk about it I suppose. I'm not good at talking IRL. We've had him 8 years nearly. Before we had children! He was supposed to be our baby as we thought we couldn't get pregnant! He was a rescue staff and has been an absolutely amazing dog. So good with the children. I wasn't keen on getting a staff at all (DH wanted one) but I don't regret it for a second! I'd not consider any other dog now! Calm and patient when needed, but absolutely loopy at times

Sorry to hear about your doggy. It's so hard but best he doesn't suffer.

He is a lovely dog. DD and I have been sharing funny memories of him and giggling- like the time he chased a goose into the canal (he hates water!) only to discover he couldn't bloody swim! I was 7 mo pg at the time and seriously considered wading in and rescuing him! Won't miss the farts though

so sorry I lost my beloved 'lurch' last August after having him (rescued) for 9 years. I still cry with missing him and when I read posts like yours. It is so bloody hard - I am virtual hand-holding with you.

He's gone I got to go with him in the end and cuddled him to sleep. DH was there too. He went really quickly - less than a minute I think - must have been ready I guess! Today has been hard and I keep bursting into tears. Our house feels all wrong without him

I’m so sorry. I cried and didn’t eat for 3 days when my last dog was pts 4 yrs ago. I still miss him now but it really was the best decision although it happened so fast.
My friend has not long lost one if hers too, he was only 4. I couldn’t even text her about it without crying. Be kind to yourself over the next few days and think about the great life he’s had with you.
