How to keep white fur white

On a border collie, how do you keep the white fur white?
On my youngest the white is starting to have a tinge of a yellowy colour to it.
Is there a specific shampoo that can be used to help keep it white?
My other two seem fine but are more the typical border collie colours, where as she has so much more white

The dog's saliva and tears can make the white fur go yellow (obviously most noticeable around the mouth and eyes!). I was told to feed our white dog a teaspoon of pro-biotic yoghurt every day, and this seems to be working - beard is much less yellow, and no tear stains.

Use blue dog shampoo. It’s what most groomers use for white dogs.

The white bits on my collie stay very white, and while at the vets once I made a joke about it. The vet said it's because he's walked on the beach each day and the sand brings out the dirt. So there we go!

Thanks all. I have ordered some blue shampoo.
I wish i lived closer to the beach

Apparently you can make a paste with water and bicarb, brush it on darker areas with toothbrush, wait for it to dry and brush out. Mum's trying this on her Westie tomorrow as she's got a brown beard from rubbing on wood chippings in the garden

That also works on grout! Wanders off muttering about rolling dog on kitchen floor....

I shall report back tomorrow with photos

Never had a white dog but plenty of horses that needed whitening! I’d use the blue/purple shampoo (we used to use ‘blue bags’ you could buy for laundry but don’t think they even do these any more!) or some people use Hibiscrub then use chalk like this and brush it through....

Oooohhhh, interesting, I have Lot of dogs, but 3 whities as they are known, terriers. They are sparkly white, always. I'm not sure why.......they shouldn't be. I have towel bags in the car after muddy walks. They are clean by nature and clean each other, and sleep in the bed, under the covers.

Our water is private supply, so might be that. Although I couldn't tell you the last time I bathed themBlush. We go to the beach maybe once a month.

Interestingly my horse is not so clean and fairy liquid is the only thing that sorts that out...

OrlandaFuriosa · 30/12/2017 22:59

If your terriers are wire haired, or have the sort of hair that needs stripping, it’s because the outer tougher bits of the hair trap rain and grease and dirt and it doesn’t get to the downy inner hair that keeps them warm.

Which is great. For them. Not for my carpets onto which it falls or is rolled.

Yes, I’m looking at you, DDog.
