What have the MN dogs achieved this Christmas?

PestDog came home with me to my family and he's charmed the whole family, by some complete miracle (what a difference 5 months makes! He's no longer living up to his MN name)

He's provided an insight into what DF would be like if he was a DGF ("he doesn't need a coat on, he's only going down the road" "yes he does there's snow on the ground" PestDog came back shivering despite wearing his Equafleece) Hmm

Decided to start an argument he knew he wouldn't have to finish with three enormous mastiffs. Pest is little but the mastiffs were farm guard dogs safely confined behind a gate so he got to feel safely macho Grin

And he's managed to make himself look spectacularly thick by being unable to unwrap his own sausage present, even when the end was helpfully poking out Hmm

What have the other MN dogs achieved this Christmas?

Raahhdog is failing to learn that when we let him out of the kitchen door, there is no point sitting at the patio. We won't open the patio. it is constantly having to open and close the patio doors for him that has broken them.

But no. He just sits there. Looking at me.

love him. don't believe anyone who says schnauzers are bright Grin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/12/2017 20:14

Dog2 has failed to realise that the Christmas Tree is Not A Threat and keeps barking at it.
Dog1 has been very clever and has arranged all his scruffy toys under it, a bit like all those FB posts, except with smelly ducks, some of them ripped to pieces.
He then proceeded to bark at the smelly ducks.

I'm beginning to hate Christmas. and barking idiot dogs

Montgomerystubercles · 28/12/2017 20:32

Ddog 1 has behaved herself beautifully, ddog 2 however managed to snaffle a whole plate of caviar toasts from MiL's kitchen on Christmas Day morning before I had even taken my coat off. She then threw up lemon slices all over the rug in their drawing room.....and in SiL's sitting room a couple of hours later.....and my kitchen a little later. Vomit bingo, awful dog!!

Mupflup · 28/12/2017 20:43

Mupdog has behaved beautifully all over Christmas other than totally decimating her new gingerbread man rope toy into shreds. She is however very despondent that Christmas is over and we're not all sat under a blanket on the sofa all day every day!

userxx · 28/12/2017 21:15

Greyhound slept through Xmas day and Boxing Day.

Cocobananas · 28/12/2017 21:59

Coco dog joined in everything from wrapping presents, greeting guests, pub on Christmas Eve, lying in wait outside adult DD and SIL bedroom door every morning, dishwasher duty, playing with boring plastic toy my parents gave her even though she usually ignores plastic toys. Generally being a delight....back to normal tomorrow😜

PestDog has completely failed to cope with the snow - despite his equafleece he was shivering after 15 minutes Hmm and doing an excellent impression of the sort of neglected dog you see on an RSPCA advert asking for donations. Despite my efforts to give several short walks in the day and spending £££ on new toys to keep him entertained, he now has so much energy that he was doing zoomies and trying to playfight with me before I was even out of bed.

Thank god the snow has melted overnight! ☃

CandleDog was very impressed by the squeaky ball DGD gave him. It had Santa heads all over it. It only took him two days to chew one of the heads off it and thus kill said ball. He was very proud of that achievement. He also took the advent of DGD very well and only began to look martyred towards the end of the day (She has learned to say his name.) Yesterday he spent quite a bit of time proving how obedient his bottom can be in remaining on the floor when there was the prospect of turkey in the offing...

Ah what clever dogs they all are.

Mine has proved that whippets are happiest asleep somewhere warm. Ie under another body. It doesn't matter whose body it is. Man, woman or child. To be fair she did stay in boarding kennels for a week up to the 20th December and is obviously still making is pay.

She now refuses to get down off the sofa if you ask her. She actually wants you to sit in her. And once removed immediately jumps back up and uses her pointy nose to burrow under you. And usually succeeds by turning her entire body to some weird jelly substance that slides under.

Dp is her favourite body to lie under. He must be hotter than us.

mullmepopcorn · 29/12/2017 09:31

MrDog brought me presents from under the tree every day for the week before Christmas. When we were out though, he didn't fuss at them at all. Well, if he did he tidied up after himself unlikely.

He loved his new toy- carried it around and showed it to people, but wouldn't let anyone touch it. Politely moved his head away, if you reached for it.

Managed his first long day alone. Everyone at work or away so he was left from 9.45 to 6.15. He followed DS2 around for two days, after. Our usual day is only a few hours away at a time.

MothershipG · 29/12/2017 09:32

Mine 2 smallest learned that the love of a just turned 1 year old is a hazardous thing. 😟 Unfortunately that meant not being able to pay as much attention to my nephew as I liked as I was having to keep all parties at a safe distance.

Anxious123 · 29/12/2017 09:41

Mine has been his usual stupid self; barking at his tail, trying and mostly failing to mug everyone he meets for food, giving visitors lots of fuss just in case they have food. His only really silly party piece has been turning his new dog bed upside down then crawling under it, or laying on top of it...

SophoclesTheFox · 29/12/2017 10:12

FoxDog 1 and FoxDog 2 managed to achieve some good tag-team vomiting - #1 threw up at my mum's and #2 threw up at my MILs. Both times in the kitchen as we sat down to eat something - they like an audience.

#1 also got into bed with MIL for an early morning cuddle. She likes to enthusiastically stick her tongue in your ear to wake you up. MIL was a lot less enthusiastic. She'll remember to shut her bedroom door properly next time Grin

The old boy excelled himself by being very soppy and gentle with the neighbours elderly Mum. She’s the same age as my Mum and he loved her instantly.

Our new girl was fantastic - such a busy household and she was right in the middle of it most of the time and took herself off for a nap when she’d had enough. Such a good girl and we all had a bit of a sniffle when she went up to FIL for cuddles (it’s taken 10 mths but now she loves him)

The youngest little beast was a total surprise - he left the tree alone, didn’t steal any of the ornaments or pee on anything (he’s not castrated) and only barked at the tree for the first 2 hours it was up.

All in all they were great, such a total change to their routines and they managed really well.

fleshmarketclose · 29/12/2017 12:06

Eric has been his usual self throwing himself into the mix. He sang when we did his birthday cake on Christmas Eve and mine Christmas Day. He showed he knows how to open presents (and only his if you make sure you put a treat in besides the toy Wink) He has pulled crackers like a pro (with snaps removed and a markie inside) and he has been dressed up as Santa, an Elf and a tree and took it with good humour (refused the antlers though) He has been great tbh and possibly consumed way too much turkey, ham, sausage and sprouts.

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 29/12/2017 16:57

RobotDog has got very muddy on some wet walks, snaffled a chipolata or turkey slice from all 7 of us at least once on Boxing Day by doing big soppy eyes, enjoyed her new squeaky reindeer and survived Christmas Day with the big silly lab my mum was dog sitting - he stole as much turkey as he could by climbing on worksurfaces while she looked angelic. Gorgeous girl. I shall miss her when I'm back at work and not curled up on the sofa with her and the spiky cat!
