Food portions

I'm planning on mixing up Dpup's food - she's currently on 3 kibble meals/day and I want to add some raw alongside, probably dropping to 2 meals/day soon (absolutely, definitely fine to feed raw alongside the kibble that she has). I'm wondering how I work out the correct portion sizes for each food? I'm sure I'm overcomplicating it...

Decide how you want to split the food types - e.g. 50% raw and 50% kibble.

Work out how much kibble she would have a day if she was just on kibble. Let's say 200g. Take 50% of that = 100g.

Work out how much raw she would have a day if she was just having raw. Let's say 600g. Take 50% of that = 300g.

So, she gets 100g kibble and 300g raw a day. For three meals a day you could either give her all her kibble in one meal and then split the raw over two meals or could mix them all up and give 1/3 each per meal.

e.g. Option 1:
Breakfast: 100g kibble
Lunch: 150g raw
Dinner: 150g raw
TOTAL: 100g kibble, 300g raw

Option 2:
Breakfast: 33g kibble + 100g raw
Lunch: 33g kibble + 100g raw
Dinner: 33g kibble + 100g raw
TOTAL: 100g kibble, 300g raw

Ah yes...thanks so much. I knew I was over thinking it! Sooo tired, trying to put together an online order & couldn't work out the best box combinations.

The advice is not to mix raw and kibble. It messes with the digestion apparently.

PerfectlyChaotic · 29/11/2017 22:41

True for most kibble I believe. This particular brand is absolutely fine to feed alongside raw (have spoken to manufacturer for absolute certainty!) Digests at the same rate, doesn't swell etc 😊👍🏻

We raw and kibble feed but one meal of each and have never had any problems.

Wolfiefan · 29/11/2017 22:46

It's not about rate of digestion I don't think. It's something to do with the PH of the stomach or some such thing.
No expert but it is not recommended.

This one's produced to go alongside raw... www.gentledogfood.co.uk/the-gentle-way.php
